Morristown hospital employee killed after being hit by truck at crosswalk, police say

According to the crash report, the responding officer suspected drug use could be involved in the crash. No charges have been filed yet.

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. — The Morristown Police Department is investigating a crash that killed a woman who was walking across a crosswalk outside the Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System on Monday morning.

According to the crash report, a pickup truck driver failed to yield and hit a woman who was walking across a crosswalk at the intersection of North High Street and Watercrest Street. The crash happened around 7:30 a.m., killing the woman.

The victim was identified as 41-year-old Elizabeth Block from Rogersville. She was an employee at the hospital.

"Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System is deeply saddened by the loss of MHHS employee Elizabeth Block. We pray for grace and strength for her family, and extend our sincere condolences to Beth’s loved ones and to her colleagues and friends at Morristown-Hamblen," the hospital said in a statement Tuesday.

No charges were initially filed against the driver, but police said in the crash report they suspected drug use may have been involved. The 73-year-old driver of the pickup truck was given a drug test, which the report said the results were pending.
