MORRISON, Tenn. — Morristown leaders provided images of the demolition progress on the historic Parks-Belk Building as crews continued working on the irreparable building. The building was burned down in early January, and the man accused of starting the fire was arrested.
Leaders said the damage was so extensive that the historic building could not be repaired. Instead, they said the building would need to come down due to safety concerns. Its owners said they plan to build apartments and storefronts in the space where the building is located, while also preserving some parts of its historic character.
As of late March, city leaders said the top floor of the building was almost gone. They also said on social media that crews are working to soon reopen Main Street to traffic.

The city said road work is still happening on South Cumberland Street alongside the building. They said their hope is that the area will be repaired and cleaned up very soon.
"In the meantime, all downtown Morristown businesses are still open. We encourage you to continue shopping and dining in downtown and show your support to these local merchants," they said on social media.
