MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said a 2-year-old girl died after drowning in a pool at a home in the Tellico Plains area.
The sheriff's office said it happened at around 1:30 p.m. or 1:40 p.m. It said the girl's mother was outside with some children while they were playing, and stepped away for a moment. When she returned, she said she noticed the 2-year-old was not nearby.
She then noticed the toddler floating in the pool, according to the sheriff's office. She said she jumped into the water and got her daughter, and started giving CPR until deputies arrived. The deputies then took over giving CPR and transported the child to the Sweetwater Hospital.
There, the 2-year-old was pronounced dead.
Additional information, such as the identity of the toddler, was not immediately available. The Morgan County Sheriff's Office said it was waiting on autopsy results.
