Mo. girl found in NC; child alert dropped

Update Oct. 3: A 13-year-old Missouri girl reported missing last week and possibly in Tennessee has been located, according to authorities.

Harley Hopper was found Monday in North Carolina, according to a release from the Greene County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities issued an East Tennessee Endangered Child Alert last Wednesday evening for Harley.

It was believed Kenneth Dylan Whitehead and Harley had traveled from Missouri to Greene County, where the two were seen in the area of Lower Paint Creek of the Cherokee National Forest. They were seen walking after abandoning their vehicle.

Officials also said later it was possible they had moved on to North Carolina.

Update Sept. 30:

The Greene County Sheriff said an endangered teenaged girl and a man could have slipped into a neighboring state after hours of searching Thursday.

Greene County Sheriff Pat Hankins told WCYB on Friday that a tracking dog was brought to a potential campsite used by kidnapping suspect Kenneth Whitehead and 13-year-old Harley Hopper.

Authorities issued an East Tennessee Endangered Child Alert on Wednesday evening for Hopper.

Hankins and investigators believe Whitehead and Hopper could be in Hot Springs, N.C.

Authorities said Whitehead and Hopper traveled from Missouri to Greene County, where the two were seen in the area of Lower Paint Creek of the Cherokee National Forest. They were seen walking after abandoning their vehicle.

Whitehead and Hopper have been on the run since Sept. 22.

Original Story on Sept. 28: The Greene County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, TBI and the United States Forestry Service are searching Greene County for a missing Missouri teen and the man accused of kidnapping her.

Kenneth Dylan Whitehead is wanted out of Missouri for kidnapping 13-year-old Harley Hopper. Authorities issued an East Tennessee Endangered Child Alert Wednesday evening for Hopper.

According to TBI, the pair were last seen in the area of Lower Paint Creek of the Cherokee National Forest. They were seen walking after abandoning their vehicle.

Whitehead is approximately 5'4" tall and approximately 120 pounds. Hopper is 5'3" tall and approximately 200 lbs. and may have colored her hair red.

She was last seen wearing a red & black flannel shirt with long sleeves and dark pajama pants. Whitehead was last seen wearing a light colored Khaki shirt and is known to have a knife.
