KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Every year, the MEDIC Regional Blood Center competes against a Florida blood center to see which organization can collect the most donations ahead of Tennessee Football's game against the Gators. This year, the competition wrapped up on Sept. 20 and MEDIC won.
MEDIC said it collected more donations than LifeSouth Blood Center in Florida — a total of 1,727 donations. However, it was a close match with the Florida blood center collecting 1,694 donations.
Throughout the week, MEDIC Regional Blood Center offered incentives for donors, such as t-shirts and coupons. The special edition t-shirt was designed to illustrate donors' commitment to tackling blood shortages.
