There are a number of tributes and memorials this week as our nation's greatest heroes gather in Knoxville for the Medal of Honor Convention.

Included in those are dozens of beautiful quilts, each square stitched with love and a personalized tribute to each recipient.

Around 200 East Tennesseans worked countless hours over the past year and a half to create the quilts, and on Wednesday, they went on display in the Knoxville Convention Center.

Organizers say they were thrilled to see such an outpouring of excitement over making the tributes.

On Thursday, each quilter will get to meet and personally present their quilt to the Medal of Honor recipient they made it for.

"Tomorrow is going to be a very emotional day. When the recipients see whats been done for them and when the quilters just get to say thank you, we're so glad you came to Knoxville and we're so glad for the service you've given your country," said Project Coordinator Kit Brown.

Each quilter will also give a personal note to their recipient, explaining why they picked them. Many of them also are planning to give a special gift and washing instructions to ensure the quilts stay in pristine form.
