TELLICO PLAINS, Tenn. — Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office were dispatched just after noon on Sunday to a call about a device under a vehicle on the 400 block of Shadden Road in Tellico Plains, according to Conway Mason, a detective with MCSO.

According to Mason, deputies identified the device as an "explosive device" with the Knox County Bomb Squad then being called in to dismantle it. Mason said two homes were evacuated out of precaution from the device but there were no injuries reported.

The device was found at the same location of a suspicious fire that happened the previous week with Mason saying he believed the two incidents were related.

Monroe County Emergency Services posted on social media at 1:41 p.m. warning those in the area to avoid Shadden Road. MCES provided an update that the roadway had been reopened at 4:35 p.m.

MCSO is now investigating with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
