Ribbon cutting for new VA clinic in Athens

East Tennessee veterans now have a new option for care.

The new Veterans Affairs Outreach Clinic in Athens held its grand opening ceremony Friday.

Before, those veterans had to drive to Chattanooga or Nashville to get V.A. healthcare. They say this location is more convenient, especially for our older veterans.

"The convenience. I don't know how to describe it. It's so much easier. I look at the World War II vets we have left and it's hard for them to get around, and even Korean and Vietnam war veterans, this is so much more convenient and closer. And it looks like we have care that we need," saod Philip Brannock, an Air Force veteran.

The new clinic offers primary care, mental health services, basic lab services and tele-health services.

Next week, Veterans Affairs will host a grand opening for its new clinic in Harriman.
