MARYVILLE, Tenn. — People without a safe place to sleep in Maryville will be able to go to the First Baptist Church there on Thursday night.
The Blount County Mayor's Office said on Jan. 4 that the church would open a warming center at 7 p.m. for people who need a safe place to go as temperatures fall below freezing in East Tennessee. The church will also serve a hot meal and breakfast Friday morning before it closes at 7 a.m.
The warming center is located at 202 W. Lamar Alexander Parkway in Maryville.
Lows in East Tennessee are expected to drop into the lower 20s Thursday night with a mostly clear sky after highs went up to the mid-40s during the day. Lows Friday night are expected to reach the mid-30s, warming slightly compared to Thursday night.
