BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — The United Way of Blount County released its annual report for 2023 this week. The report highlights the ways the nonprofit helped Blount County residents last year.
"Every day in our community someone, somewhere, needs our help," said Chris Soro, the United Way Board Chair, and Jennifer Wackenhagen, the President and CEO, in the report.
According to the report, the United Way invested $1.4 million into 40 programs and 26 community agencies in 2023. The nonprofit raised more than $2.2 million in 2023 and is currently in the process of deciding which agencies in Blount County will get a chunk of those dollars.
Last year, more than $33,000 was raised through new fundraisers — Power of the Purse and a sporting clays tournament.
The United Way also worked to educate more than 600 Blount County community members about poverty last year. The group also found around 38% of Blount County households live in poverty.
