Alcoa Fire Department report says fire at Amazon facility resulted in around $7,000 in losses

The facility was temporarily closed after a fire on March 15.

ALCOA, Tenn. — A report from the Alcoa Fire Department said a blaze at a Blount County Amazon facility in March resulted in around $7,000 in losses.

AFD said the fire department sent crews to the facility at 625 Pine Lake Drives in Louisville, around 9:51 p.m. on March 15. A fire engine arrived on the scene about five minutes later, and additional engines made it to the facility a little after 10 p.m. that day.

When firefighters got to the Amazon facility, they found smoke and water flowing from the warehouse's sprinkler system on the building's third floor. Crews had to move storage carts on the third floor to find where the fire started.

The fire was contained to four product bins on the third floor, the report said.

"(It was) initially reported that a robot may have been on fire, but none were found with damage," AFD wrote in the report.

The fire did occur in a "product/robot area" of the third floor, the report said.

AFD said that Amazon is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and that its cause was unintentional. Amazon said the facility has since re-opened and resumed operations since the blaze.

A total of 12 fire apparatus and 39 fire personnel responded to the blaze.
