BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — Construction is set to begin soon on 400 apartments planned for Blount County's Pellissippi Place Development.
Jeff Muir, a spokesperson with the Blount Partnership, said the group would begin a boulevard construction project off Highway 33 in Maryville in August that would build a road into the complex.
"They'll start construction after that on the two new apartment buildings. That project will take about 16 months," Muir said
He said after the first two buildings are built, two more will be built. A retail and restaurant component is also planned for the area.
Muir said Pellissippi Place is mostly a technology and research development park. However, its proximity to nearby businesses like Clayton Homes and the Maryville-Alcoa Greenway makes it an attractive area for housing and entertainment.
"This apartment complex is really going to be nice for young professionals or recent college graduates that are working in the area. It's going to have loft apartments, one and two-bedroom apartments, a nice pool area, and it's going to be connected to the Maryville-Alcoa Greenway," Muir said. "Walkability is what this area is all about."
Ramston Capital is the developer of the project. Muir said there's a need for this type of housing in Blount County, as leaders continue to work to bring young people to the area.
Pellissippi Place is a development that's been in the works for years and is a partnership between Alcoa, Maryville, Blount County, Knox County and the Blount Partnership. It's located off Old Knoxville Highway in Maryville.
