Work starts next week on downtown Maryville hotel

According to the developer, the 100-room Holiday Inn will feature a rooftop bar.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Construction starts next week on a 100-room hotel planned for downtown Maryville.

The city of Maryville said in a release that developers submitted a grading permit application for the site and work starts the week of July 29.

People can expect the workers to begin staging equipment and addressing underground utilities before starting work.

Developer Sandip Patel, with Devi Capital, said he's excited to bring the hotel to downtown Maryville. Patel grew up in East Tennessee and has spent his life working in the hospitality industry.

He told 10News the goal is to not disrupt the lives and businesses of people in downtown Maryville during the hotel's construction. He said he estimates it'll take under two years for the hotel to be built depending on factors like weather.

"I've been living in the area for a long time, and just want to, (with) downtown Maryville specifically, needed some growth," Patel said. "And I think someone needed to make this happen, with us coming in that will bring a lot of energy downtown, and a lot of others will grow."

The construction will affect parking in downtown Maryville. The city said the Sam Houston parking lot, in between Broadway Towers and McCammon Ammons Funeral Home, will be closed.

The upper level of the Broadway Towers Parking Garage will remain open until construction makes it so people can't get in. Residents will be notified of the closure.

The city is offering parking at the Harper Street parking garage, which includes an elevator and an accessible entrance to Broadway Avenue.

Once the hotel is complete, public parking will be available in its garage.
