MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Maryville is inviting everyone over for the holidays.
Shops in downtown Maryville are hosting a Christmas Open House on Friday and Saturday, with most stores participating from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Boyd Thomas Clothing, Dandy Lions Gifts, J. Danforth Mercantile, Neighborly Books Maryville, Roost, The Village Tinker and The Boutique on Broadway will be participating.
Dandy Lions Gifts owner Joy Carver's shop is filled with all kinds of Christmas gifts, displays and goods. There are nativity scenes, an entire section dedicated to the sights and scenes of East Tennessee and even a spot for Thanksgiving items.
Carver said it's important for the businesses in downtown Maryville to support one another, saying shopping local creates a special experience for customers.
"We stay distinctive and different," Carver said. "So not only are you buying something very, very different and better, I think, and special. You also get the service, and the gift wrapping and the hometown feel."
Carver said she's thankful for her staff as they help get the store ready for the event and the holiday season.
She said people will be able find unique gifts shopping in downtown Maryville with a personal touch.
"I think we are all very mindful to have very different things, what you are going to find in your big box, your online, your e-commerce, those are pretty standard," she said. "When you want something a little elevated maybe a little unique, maybe handmade, it's wonderful for that."
