BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — Voters in Blount County picked the Republican candidates for U.S. President, County Property Assessor and two school board seats during Tuesday's primary election. Democratic candidates ran unopposed in Blount County.
Preliminary voting results from the Blount County Election Commission show that 17,828 ballots were cast in the primary elections. Former President Donald J. Trump won the Republican presidential primary. He received 12,231 votes, or about 76% of the vote.
President Joe Biden won the Democratic presidential primary with 1,619 votes or about 96% of the vote.
The Blount County general election is set for Aug. 1.
Blount County Assessor of Property
Incumbent Blount County Property Assessor Todd Orr, a Republican, defeated Republican candidate Allan Latham in the primary race.
Orr received 9,504 votes, or about 67% of the vote. Latham received 4,369 votes, or about 33% of the vote.
Orr will face Melissa McCrossen, the Democratic candidate, who received 1,576 votes in the uncontested race.
Blount County School Board District 2 Race
John Lowe defeated Josh Marler in the Republican Blount County School Board District 2 Republican primary race. Lowe received 1,038 votes or about 70% of the vote. Marler received 439 votes, or about 30% of the vote.
Lowe will face Don Jones, the Democratic candidate, who received 286 votes in that uncontested primary race.
Blount County School Board District 4 Race
Chris Pass Sr. defeated Trevis Gardner, Diana Mehaffey and Josh Sullins in the Blount County School Board District 4 Republican primary race.
Pass Sr. received 974 votes, or about 40% of the vote. Gardener received 592 votes, or about 24% of the vote. Mehaffey received 542 votes, or about 22% of the vote and Sullins received 334 votes, or about 13% of the vote.
Pass Sr. will face Rob Spirko, the Democratic candidate, who received 241 votes in his uncontested primary race.
