BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — Update (10/17 9:25 a.m.):
The body of a missing 18-year-old was discovered late Monday, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said Garrett McAmis was involved in a fatal car wreck on U.S. 129. Divers with the Blount Special Operations and Response Team located his body in his car in Chilhowee Lake, BCSO said.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The preliminary report said McAmis was driving north on Calderwood Highway at around the 16 Mile Marker when he followed a right curve. However, they said he crossed the center line, hit a guardrail and went airborne, entering the lake.
"This is not what we hoped for. Sheriff James Lee Berrong extends his sympathy to Garrett's loved ones," BCSO said.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office is asking for assistance in locating an 18-year-old last seen on Friday, Oct. 13.
Garrett McAmis texted a friend around 11:30 p.m. saying he was at a pull-off on "The Dragon," an area of U.S. Highway 129. He told his friend he was having trouble breathing. That was his last known contact with someone, according to BCSO.
The 18-year-old's phone is currently turned off. He was last seen driving a 2012 silver Kia Sorento with the Tennessee tag "BQF-1385," BCSO said.
McAmis is 5'10", 122 pounds, and has green eyes and black hair. He was wearing a black hoodie with a rose on it and black pants. He may have a cast on his right hand, according to BCSO.
Deputies have been searching "The Dragon" since Sunday, BCSO said.
McAmis has a medical condition that could prevent him from getting back home on his own.
