Blount County Advocacy Center prepares for 5K to fundraise, raise awareness for child abuse

The Heroes for Hope 5K is planned for April 27.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — A Blount County agency that offers all the services abused children need in one place is hosting its fifth annual Heroes for Hope 5K event in April.

New Hope Children's Advocacy Center served 765 kids last year.

This year's 5K event is scheduled for April 27 and starts at 8:30 a.m. The race is meant to raise awareness about the services the center provides and also raise money to help pay for things like forensic interviews and medical exams for these families.

The families who utilize New Hope receive these services at no cost to them.

"The Heroes for Hope 5K & Kids' Fun Run is not just a race, it's a rallying cry for our community to come together and stand against child abuse," said incoming New Hope Children's Advocacy Center CEO Ashley Fontenot. "Every step taken and every dollar raised helps us in our mission to ensure that every child in Blount County has the opportunity for a safe and healthy childhood."

There are multiple options to participate in the race, including a 5K for adults and kids, and a 1-mile Kid's Fun Run for those 10 years old and younger.

The course for the race is through Greenbelt Park and along the Maryville Greenway.

“We thank everyone participating in the 2024 Hero's for Hope 5k,” said Heroes for Hope 5K Chair Amanda Myers. “This race helps raise funds for New Hope Children's Advocacy Center and their mission to restore hope to abused or traumatized children and their families. Whether you are running, walking, sleeping but supporting, or sponsoring, your participation is making an impact in the lives of children and families in Blount County.”
