THP: One dead after crash involving train near Sweetwater Valley Farm, victim identified

The crash temporarily closed two intersections in Philadelphia, Tennessee, according to the Loudon County Sheriff's Office.

PHILADELPHIA, Tenn. — The Loudon County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that crews were responding to a fatal crash involving a train. The crash happened at the entrance to Sweetwater Valley Farm and blocked two intersections, according to the sheriff's office.

In a post on social media, it said Pond Creek Road at Elm Street and Christian Street at Church Street were temporarily shut down as crews worked at the scene. LCSO said Spring Street at the train tracks were clear and could have been as an alternative route.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol released its preliminary report on the crash Friday, showing one person died. That person was identified as Miguel Angel Lopez Zavala, 36, from Tennessee.

According to the report, a Norfolk Southern train was heading north on the tracks that run parallel to Highway 11 and Zavala didn't stop while heading east. As a result, Zavala's car was hit by the train.

Crews from the sheriff's office were joined by crews from the Philadelphia Fire Department as well as ambulance crews.
