LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. — Loudon County Schools said they are taking steps to build a new school for grades seven through 12, meant to help address several issues from an increase in the student population.
They said that the district is surpassing 5,000 students for the first time, and there are no open classrooms at Eaton Elementary or North Middle Schools. They also said that due to the growth of the student population, traffic congestion has increased.
"The school system plans to address all these concerns, as well as the community's desire to have a high school option for students living in the northern end of the county," LCS said on social media.
They said they are in the process of buying property by First Baptist Church, from Highway 11 to Simpson Road. They said the school built there will be for students in grades seven through 12.
Once the new school is built, they said Eaton Elementary will become a school for students in kindergarten through third grade. North Middle will then be for students between fourth grade and sixth grade.
"The school district is planning based on actual student increases we have already seen, as well as the potential of over 7,800 additional housing units in the north end of the county," they said.
