A former Loudon County woman has been charged with killing her husband, more than nine months after his death.
Investigators with the Loudon County Sheriff's Department said Janet Morton turned herself in Thursday to be booked on the charges. She was then released on bond.
On November 6, 2013, her husband, Ralph (Floyd) Morton died of a gunshot wound to the head on the living room couch in their home on Cattleman's Drive in Lenoir City. His death was initially reported as a suicide, but the investigation determined that Morton had been murdered.
A Loudon County grand jury indicted Deborah Morton on the first degree murder charges on Tuesday. She will be arraigned on August 18.
In a press release, Sheriff Guider said "he appreciates the patience of the community in this very sensitive case, but a case of this nature requires both attention to detail and patience."
