KPD: Woman killed after being hit by vehicle on Magnolia Avenue

​KPD said the involved vehicle along with its driver stayed at the scene of the wreck.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — UPDATE (8/18/2024): The Knoxville Police Department is continuing to investigate after a fatal crash involving a pedestrian. 

According to KPD, the crash happened just before 9 p.m. Saturday on Magnolia Avenue at Bertrand Street.

The vehicle was heading west on Magnolia when it hit a woman trying to cross the street, KPD said. The person in the vehicle stayed at the scene.

The woman, a 61-year-old, was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses said the involved vehicle had a green light at the intersection. 

UPDATE: The Knoxville Police Department said the person who was struck by a vehicle has died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. 

KPD said the involved vehicle along with its driver stayed at the scene of the wreck.

All lanes on Magnolia Avenue have since reopened as of 11 p.m. EDT on Saturday, said KPD. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The Knoxville Police Department said officers are working a pedestrian-involved crash on Magnolia Avenue on Saturday night. 

Lanes are closed in both directions between Bertrand Street and Myrtle Avenue, KPD said. 

"Avoid the area and seek alternate routes if possible," the department said. 

Information such as the cause of the wreck or the identities of those involved was not immediately available. This story will be updated when more information is available.
