Newfound Gap Road will see temporary one-lane closures over the next few weeks as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park begins paving operations.

The road will be down to one lane for 1.8 miles between the Sugarlands Visitor Center and Carlos Campbell Overlook beginning Tuesday, May 31. The closures will be managed with flagging operations to direct traffic through the work zones.

Park visitors should expect to see weekday lane closures and traffic delays throughout the project. Contractors may also work during the evening and nighttime hours.

The paving work is expected to take two days to complete, followed by road shouldering and striping operations. The park says the project should be completed by June 15.

For more information about road conditions, you can visit the park website at www.nps.gov/grsm.
