KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Arborists are hard at work trying to save a water oak tree that sits in the meadow of Lakeshore Park.
According to Lakeshore, Knoxville's Urban Foresters are trimming the tree to hopefully extend its life.
Lakeshore Park is a popular location as it provides views of the Tennessee River and the Great Smoky Mountains. Thousands of people visit the park to use its walking trails, athletic fields, playgrounds, event spaces and open green areas.
The 207-acre park has a trail system that's a total of 4 miles, with a riverwalk through a natural marsh and woodlands on the banks of the Tennessee River.
Lakeshore is also known to have a diversity of trees, including some well over 100 years old with over 95 labeled species of trees. Common tree species include Flowering Dogwood, Black Walnut, Chinese Elm, Sugar Maple and Eastern White Pine.
