Herman Webb, the brother of country legends Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle, and the gatekeeper of their family home in the hills of Van Lear, Kentucky, died Saturday. He was 83.

Gayle confirmed her brother's death in a social media post.

"Our brother, Herman Webb passed away this morning in Kentucky with his wonderful children around him," Gayle wrote. "Some of you may know Herman from the countless tours he gave of the old home place in Kentucky.

"We love and miss you, Herman!"

Webb was an accommodating guide for fans who made a pilgrimage to the childhood home country music's coal miner's daughter, which Lynn described in song as "a cabin on a hill in Butcher Holler." He would offer to take them down the road for a peek at the dining room table where Lynn would have eaten until she moved away as a teenager.

"I'm amazed at the number of people who come here to see this," Webb said in a 2002 interview with the Associated Press. "I've seen 200 to 300 cars drive up this hollow on certain days."

Funeral arrangements are pending.
