KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Five trees were planted in Governor Riverside Landing Park Monday by the Knoxville Utilities Board, the city of Knoxville, the Tennessee Division of Forestry and Trees Knoxville in honor of Arbor Day.
According to KUB, it received its 23rd consecutive Tree Line USA award from the Arbor Day Foundation during the event. The utility board was recognized with the award for implementing best practices in utility arboriculture through quality tree care, annual worker training, tree planting and public education.
“In East Tennessee, we are fortunate to have a landscape of trees that provide us beauty year-round from the beautiful fall colors to the cheerful spring blooms,” said Gabriel J. Bolas II, KUB President and CEO. “KUB remains committed to quality tree care while providing safe, reliable electric service to the community."
According to KUB, it has planted over 400 trees throughout the community in 2024. When planted properly, trees can reduce energy consumption, provide beauty, enhance quality of life and promote clean air and water, KUB said.
"KUB encourages the community to plant the right tree in the right place to enhance the environment and maintain utility safety," KUB said.
