KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department is investigating two separate, unrelated fatal crashes that happened Thursday evening.
According to KPD, officers responded to a single-car crash on I-40 West near Hall of Fame Drive at around 9 p.m. They said the car had hit the center median wall for reasons unknown at this time.
The driver was pronounced dead at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
KPD said they are investigating the possibility that the driver experienced a medical issue that led to the crash.
About 30 minutes later, officers responded to a two-car crash on Martin Mill Pike at Lester Street.
Based on a preliminary investigation from KPD, a Ford Mustang was driving north on Martin Mill when it crossed the center line and struck another vehicle.
The driver of the Mustang was pronounced dead at UT Medical Center. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to UTMC with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
The identities of the victims of both crashes are being withheld at this time.
