KPD asking for information on 2 unsolved murder cases

The murders of Katelyn Slivenski, 24, and Paul Shepherd Jr., 40, are two unsolved cases the department is asking for the public's assistance in solving.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department posted on social media asking for any information on two unsolved murders.

Katelyn Slivenski, 24, was shot and killed in a Western Heights neighborhood in Northwest Knoxville in 2020 with her case remaining unsolved four years later, KPD said.

According to the department, officers responded to the 1200 block of Better Tomorrow Drive for an unresponsive female.

Upon arrival, officers found Slivenski outside of an apartment complex suffering from at least one gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

The department also posted on social media on June 29, asking for assistance in another cold case from 2014.

"10 years ago, 40-year-old Paul Shepherd Jr. was shot and killed in the Montgomery Village area," KPD said.

KPD said Shepherd Jr. was a taxi driver who had started his job only two days before his murder. Witnesses on the scene told the department that they saw two young men get out of the taxi and shoot him, KPD said.

the department said despite the continued investigation of the two cases, no suspects have been arrested or charged.

KPD asked that any information be sent to TN Crime at (865) 215-7165 or the department's Homicide Unit at (865) 215-7165.
