KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Update (2/6): The Knoxville Police Department has identified the person killed after a wrong-way crash on I-640.
Carlos Castillo-Vasquez, a 27-year-old, died after driving west in the eastbound lanes of I-640 and hitting a truck head-on, according to KPD.
Previous: One person is dead after a wrong-way crash on I-640 early Sunday morning, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
KPD said the crash happened around 3 a.m. Police responded to a multi-car crash on I-640 East near Western Avenue. Before the crash, police were notified of a car traveling west in the eastbound lanes.
According to KPD, a Honda sedan was traveling west when it hit a Dodge pickup truck head-on. Then, that sedan was hit head-on by another vehicle.
The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, KPD said. The driver and passengers in the truck were taken to an area hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.
