KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department Motors Officers conducted a full day of traffic enforcement on Chapman Highway and James White Parkway on Tuesday. KPD said it is part of an ongoing effort to reduce reckless driving, improve roadway safety and eliminate fatal crashes.
During the patrol, officers mainly focused on speeding and distracted driving, issuing 76 citations. Officers said there were no crashes on either James White Parkway or Chapman Highway while on patrol.
"Keeping the roads safe is a top priority of the KPD and officers are working hard to accomplish that goal," KPD said.
There have been 12 traffic fatalities this year so far, according to Knoxville Police. That is a 75% reduction compared to the same time in 2023 when there were 21 fatalities.
Officers want to remind those to continue to practice safe driving habits by slowing down, buckling up, paying attention to the road and never getting behind the wheel under the influence.
