The Virginia College campus in Knoxville is set to close on Friday, according to a letter sent to students.
Education Corporation of America announced it is closing several campuses including Virginia College in Knoxville.
"Education Corporation of America campuses which include Brightwood College, Brightwood Career Institute, Ecotech Institute, Golf Academy of America and Virginia College announced that operations would be discontinued in December of 2018," the release said.
Students received a letter Wednesday from President and CEO Stu Reed that said the Department of Education added requirements that made operating their schools more challenging.
"In addition, last night ACICS suspended our schools' accreditation with intent to withdraw. The uncertainty of these requirements resulted in an inability to acquire additional capital to operate our schools," the letter said. "It is with extreme regret that this series of recent circumstances has forced us to discontinue the operations of our schools. Your campus will close on Friday, 12/7/2018."
ECA said more information will be provided on Dec. 17.
The Knoxville campus opened in 2012.
