KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said officers had a busy Thanksgiving holiday this year, issuing hundreds of citations and responding to plenty of crashes.
The Thanksgiving holiday is usually one of the busiest travel times of the year. In Knoxville, the police department said it gave 315 total citations to drivers, along with 404 warning citations. They also gave out 61 speeding citations.
Two arrests were made for driving while intoxicated, and two other people lost their lives to traffic incidents over the Thanksgiving holiday. One of those people was a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 40.
Officers responded to 11 crashes involving injuries over the five-day period. However, they also helped 57 motorists in the same timeframe.
The enforcement period began at around 4 p.m. on Nov. 27 and run through Dec. 1.
