Glass-blower from Knoxville competes on Netflix game show

Jonathan Capps, a West High School graduate, competed in season four of "Blown Away."

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville native and West High School graduate competed in a Netflix series, "Blown Away." In the show, ten artists compete in a glass-blowing competition to determine the best of the group. The winner takes home $100,000 after creating pieces of art that meet the challenges set by the hosts.

Jonathan Capps, a professional glass blower and instructor at Ohio State University, said the show provides great exposure to the art form.

"I think that it's good for glass, that this competition brings the process and brings the challenge of blowing glass and how difficult this medium is to the everyday home," Capps said. "I think that's important for our community. It makes us stronger."

In order to find out how Capps did in the competition, he can be found on season four of "Blown Away" on Netflix.

His work is also held in the Finnish Glass Museum's permanent collection and at the Prykäri Glass Museum. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Centre College in 2005 and went on to get a Master of Fine Arts from Ohio State University in 2016 before being awarded a U.S. Fulbright Arts Grand to spend a year in Finland learning Finnish glass and design.
