Knoxville liquor store offers alcohol delivery

Ashe's Wines & Spirits is one of many liquor stores across the nation that offer alcohol delivery within an hour through Drizly.

There's a delivery service for just about everything these days - groceries, meal kits and even your laundry. You might not have known about it, but there's even a service that delivers alcohol to your door.

Drizly lets you order from your phone or computer, and it comes within an hour.

It could change the way you get your alcohol--no more trips to the liquor store.

"Everything is on demand these days," Ashe's Wines & Spirits General Manager Will Beeler said.

But that doesn't bother Beeler and his staff.

"So people want what they want, when they want it," Beeler said.

Ashe's Wines & Spirits General Manager Will Beeler says Drizly is growing in popularity around Knoxville.

On demand is just fine with them--the Drizly delivery service allows Ashe's to save you some time.

"This app was an option, and wine went into grocery stores," Beeler said. "The law changed and loosened up, and let us deliver product."

You can get anything in the store.

They put it together, and take a quick drive.

They deliver within a few miles of the store in all directions.

"It usually gives (the employees) a chance to get out of the store while they're working, and they generally get tips as well," Beeler said.

But delivery drivers always check IDs.

"The Drizly app itself they've done a great job with that, there's an application on there where you can scan the person's ID, so you do record a picture of the ID and the person, and then they sign electronically," Beeler said.

Making things particularly easy if you're too busy to head to the store--or you want to send a gift.

"We've found a lot of our business comes from corporate gifts that we deliver," Beeler said. "But it is pretty scattered out. The corporate gifts are usually pre-ordered, so once the two o'clock hour hits, we roll with them. And then the rest of them happen between five and seven in the evening."

Beeler said Drizly isn't as popular in Knoxville as it is in bigger cities like Nashville or Atlanta, but they're hoping it catches on here soon.
