KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Update 10/2: The man who was hit and killed by a train Monday evening has been identified as Dustin Pilkington, 33 of Knoxville.

The Knoxville Police Department said a pedestrian was fatally hit by a train Monday evening, prompting police to close a part of the road as detectives investigated the incident.
It said on social media that the person was hit in the area of East Inskip Drive and Morton Place Way. The police department said East Inskip Drive was closed between Central Avenue Pike and Coster Road at around 6 p.m. on Monday.
The police department said the man was hit at around 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time, and said he was hit by a Norfolk Southern train. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said it was reported the train was heading south when operators saw the victim walking on the track. The operators said they blew the train's horns and started the brakes, but could not stop the train before hitting the man.
His body was taken to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center for further examination, police said.
