KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville's city offices will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and will close again on Jan. 1 for New Year's Day. Those closures include 311 and 211 phone services, which are usually used to help people navigate different services.

Anyone who wants to make a 311 request can do so through Knoxville's app. Instead of calling 211 for community resources providing food, housing or mental health help people will be able to find services online through a state website.

The city also said that on Dec. 24, Knoxville Area Transit's LIFT service would operate on a Sunday schedule. The Knoxville Station Customer Service Counter will also only be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

On Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, KAT will be closed and there will not be any service.

The city also said there will not be any household garbage or recycling collection on Dec. 25, and the offices of Waste Connections would be closed. On Thursday after that, garbage trucks will run on Wednesday routes. On Friday, they will run on Thursday routes. And on Saturday, they will run on Friday routes before returning to normal on Dec. 30.

No downtown trash or recycling will be picked up on Dec. 25, but properly bagged excess holiday trash placed near full garbage carts will be picked up from Dec. 26 through Jan. 3.

The city also said in a release that its five recycling centers would be open for most of the holiday season, but the Goodwill station will only be staffed for donations of household goods, and will only be open for a half-day on Dec. 24. There will not be any staff at the Goodwill station on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and the city asked people not to leave household goods at unattended centers.

The Solid Waste Facility at 1033 Elm Street will also be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
