A Knoxville attorney has been sworn in as a federal judge.
Chiet Justice Thomas A. Varlan administered the oath to Judge Pamela Reeves in a private ceremony outside of her new chambers on Monday.
He said, "We welcome Judge Reeves as the new newest member of our court, and look forward to her upcoming contributions to the Eastern District."
The Eastern District is the largest federal district in Tennessee, comprised of 41 counties and serving 2.5 million people. There are three other active district judges in this district and two senior judges.

The US Senate has confirmed a Knoxville lawyer as a federal judge.
President Obama first appointed Pamela Reeves as the United States District Judge for Eastern Tennessee last May.
Reeves has worked for the firm Reeves, Herbert and Anderson. She was the first female president of the Tennessee Bar Association.
Reeves will replace retiring judge Thomas Phillips
