Knoxville Area Transit to resume bus fares after 2 weeks of free rides for 'KAT Reimagined' program

The project began as a way to address public demand for more frequent and consistent service throughout the week.
KAT also said for two weeks after launching "KAT Reimagined," riders will be able to ride for free.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville Area Transit has resumed some of its bus fares after the group offered two free weeks of rides.

It was part of the new "KAT Reimagined" program. The project began to address public demand for more frequent and consistent service throughout the week. The bus network features 20 fixed routes, bringing more than 94,000 Knoxville residents within a quarter-mile walk of a bus stop, according to a release from KAT.

Bus fares are still $1 per ride and $2 for a day pass with discounted fares available to those who qualify.
