Knoxville Area Transit officially launches new 'KATpay' system

In the system, customers would never pay more than $2 a day or $30 in 30 days, or $1 a day and $15 in 30 days for discounted rates.
KAT also said for two weeks after launching "KAT Reimagined," riders will be able to ride for free.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville Area Transit's new account-based payment system was officially launched on Wednesday.

In the system, customers would never pay more than $2 a day or $30 in 30 days, or $1 a day and $15 in 30 days for discounted rates. People would need to create an account, either online or in an app, and load money into Katpay. That can be done either online or in-person, at the KAT Customer Service Counter or at a retail location.

People could use Katpay to pay through the app or they can get a reloadable Katpay card to tap at a validator whenever they ride.
