KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville leaders said during 2023, public service crews collected around 64 million lbs. of brush and leaves.
Crews usually collect brush every two weeks from March through October, and people can submit a request online for brush pickup. People's trash in Knoxville is also collected once a week and recycling is collected every other week by Waste Connections, and according to the city's website. It also said leaves are picked up four times beginning in November through February.
This year, the city also collected at least 3,900 tons of brush after a wave of severe storms swept through the area in August, tearing down trees and damaging several areas. During those storms, a tornado also touched down in Knox County, damaging the area even more.
City leaders also said public service crews collected 77,837 bags of litter from the city center area and the Market Square area in 2023. They also spent around 2,434 hours washing graffiti off walls, light poles, signs and building facades, according to a post on social media from the city.
Knoxville offers several services like picking up dead animals, filling potholes and fixing street lights. People can report areas where services are needed by calling 311, or by using the My Knoxville app. The app also offers a guide to parking, recreation areas and restaurants.
