Knoxville leaders cut ribbon on new affordable housing community, the Central Terrace apartments

The money for the project came from the Affordable Rental Development Fund, the city said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville leaders cut the ribbon Tuesday on dozens of new affordable housing units — the Central Terrace apartments. The city said it contributed more than $2 million to community in the Inskip Neighborhood. The money for the project came from the Affordable Rental Development Fund.

The additional units come after city data on homelessness found around 42% of people blame a lack of affordable housing as the reason they are experiencing homelessness.

"Projects like this are remarkable because they are helping so many families all at once. Families that can live here have stable schools, stable education, stable jobs and just grow from here," said Katie Moore with the Tennessee Housing Development Agency.

The 112 units at Central Terrace have already been leased, despite the city holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday.
