KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Groups of students at some Knox County schools earned their diplomas on May 16, marking the occasion with special ceremonies. The ceremonies are scheduled to happen the rest of the week in Knox County.
The first group to formally earn their diplomas on Thursday was the Knoxville Adaptive Education Center, which celebrated five graduates. The school teaches students from kindergarten through the 12th grade, focusing on promoting academic growth by providing increased support in emotional self-regulation and decision-making processes.
"Some of these that graduated today, I've known since they were little. You become part of their family too, but I'm excited for them to see where life leads them," said Ashley Ketner, principal of the Knoxville Adaptive Education Center. "It's extremely rewarding. Again, being able to see kids graduate, or even our younger students being able to return to their school."
She said most graduates from the school enter the workforce right after graduating, and a few decide to pursue higher education.
Fulton High School was also set to celebrate its graduates starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Fulton football stadium. Central High School is also set to host its ceremony at 8 p.m. at the Central football stadium.
