KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Two Knox County businesses filed WARN notices with the state on Aug. 20, announcing that hundreds of workers would be laid off.

First, the EXEDY America Corporation filed a notice with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. In the notice, the corporation said it would permanently close its location in Mascot no later than spring 2025.

It said layoffs of affected employees would start on Oct. 31. A total of 223 workers would be affected, according to the notice. The employees were not represented by a collective bargaining agreement, according to the notice, and do not have bumping rights. Instead, the notice said the East Local Workforce Development Area rapid response team would work with them to coordinate services.

Technical Response Inc. also filed an official WARN notice with the state's labor department. It said a permanent layoff was effective as of Aug. 8, affecting 115 workers. They were also not represented by a bargaining agreement, and the area's rapid response team would work to coordinate services with them.
