Knox County Commission approves $1.5M for Regal relocation

Knox County leaders will decide Monday night if they want to pitch in money to move Regal Entertainment Group's headquarters.
Regal Entertainment Group wants to relocate its corporate offices from Halls to the South Knoxville waterfront development.

(WBIR - KNOXVILLE) Knox County leaders officially approved Monday night pitching in money to move Regal Entertainment Group's headquarters.

The Knox County Commission voted on $1.5 million in funding needed to move Regal's headquarters from Halls to the South Knoxville waterfront at the old Baptist Hospital site.

The $1.5 million is in addition to the $9 million that the city of Knoxville must approve.

Gov. Bill Haslam and state leaders officially announced Regal's move to the South Knoxville waterfront on Friday.

Knox County leaders also approved some energy updates. It's a new phase to a partnership with Traine Heating and Air Conditioning. The 15-year project is supposed to save money and improve energy efficiency. It costs approximately $10.5 million with $6 million of that being funded by energy savings. The remaining $4.5 million is funded by a bond issue for capital intensive items.
