KFD: Woman rescued from burning West Knoxville house being treated at burn center

Several people helped remove the woman from a house fire in the 4000 block on Lonas Drive on Sunday night.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — UPDATE 1 PM MONDAY: The woman pulled from a burning West Knoxville home Sunday night has been transported to the Vanderbilt Burn Center in Nashville, according to the Knoxville Fire Department.

Her named has not been released. She lived in the 4000 block of Lonas Drive.

Neighbor Katelyn Spicer, a nurse, called 911 and went to remove the woman from the home Sunday night. According to KFD, she was helped by bystanders Edina Hobib, Hana Peterson and Patrick Mink.

The department expressed appreciation Monday for their intervention.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Knoxville Fire Department said one person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation from a house fire in the 4000 block on Lonas Drive on Sunday night.

KFD said crews responded around 7:43 p.m.

A nurse who lived nearby reported the fire after seeing heavy smoke coming from the house, opened the front door and found the resident lying just inside. The nurse then pulled the elderly woman from the smoke-filled home, according to officials.

When firefighters arrived, they assisted the nurse with the victim, according to KFD.

KFD said the fire appeared to have started near the kitchen, and the official cause is being investigated.
