KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Fire Department is preparing to send crews to South Carolina as Hurricane Debby approaches the southeast.
The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds and potential flooding to many parts of coastal Georgia and South Carolina as the storm moves east, with KFD ready to provide support where it is needed most.
"KFD’s Swift Water Team will deploy around 3:30 PM this afternoon from the Public Safety Complex for a possible 10-day deployment," the department said on Monday.
KFD announced on Monday that a specialized task force of 12 firefighters, equipped with emergency response vehicles and many essential supplies will make their way to South Carolina. They may be there for up to 10 days.
“We are committed to helping our neighbors in South Carolina during this critical time,” said Chief Stan Sharp. “Our firefighters are trained and prepared for high-risk situations, and we will do everything we can to support the local emergency services and communities affected by Hurricane Debby.”
