KFD crews assist with evacuations in South Carolina after flooding from Hurricane Debby

KFD provided an update on Sunday, sharing images of crews battling high water levels.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Fire Department sent crews to South Carolina as Hurricane Debby approached the southeast.

KFD provided an update on Sunday, sharing images of crews battling high water levels. 

The storm brought heavy rainfall, strong winds and flooding to many parts of coastal Georgia and South Carolina as the storm moved east. KFD was ready to provide support where it was needed most. 

"KFD’s Swift Water Team will deploy around 3:30 PM this afternoon from the Public Safety Complex for a possible 10-day deployment," the department said before their departure. 

KFD announced earlier that a specialized task force of 12 firefighters, equipped with emergency response vehicles and many essential supplies would make their way to South Carolina.

“We are committed to helping our neighbors in South Carolina during this critical time,” said Chief Stan Sharp. “Our firefighters are trained and prepared for high-risk situations, and we will do everything we can to support the local emergency services and communities affected by Hurricane Debby.”
