Kentucky high school coach resigns after old videos of him cursing at players resurface

Lynn Camp Middle/High School Head Boys Basketball Coach Tyler Wagner resigned Wednesday.

CORBIN, Ky. — A basketball coach for a Corbin, Kentucky high school resigned after videos of him yelling profanities at players a year ago resurfaced, according to district leaders.

Knox County Kentucky Board of Education Spokesperson Frank Shelton said Lynn Camp Middle/High School Head Boys Basketball Coach Tyler Wagner resigned Wednesday. Shelton said videos of Wagner in the locker room at halftime from 2023 resurfaced on Facebook late last week. One of the videos has been viewed over a million times.

Wagner issued the following statement Wednesday:

I first want to apologize for a recent video that has been made public. The video was recorded last year, Fall 2023, at the very beginning of our season. The language that I used in this video is not acceptable in any manner. I allowed the completive environment to get the best of me and for that I am truly sorry. I have fully accepted that what I did was not right, and I pledge to do better. I am not perfect, nor have I ever claimed to be. I want to apologize to my players that were in the locker room, the parents of those players and to the student body of Lynn Camp High School. I am truly sorry that you had to hear that and be part of this controversy. My actions were not acceptable, my language was not acceptable, my language was not acceptable, and I need to be a better example if I am going to be a head coach or mentor for my players. I am stepping away as the Head Coach of Lynn Camp Boys Basketball, resigning effective immediately and I plan to work on myself and on becoming a better representative for my school, my family and the kids at our great school.

The school district did not provide further comment.
