KCSO: Speeding driver dies after crashing into South Knox embankment

The incident happened Wednesday night. Marshall Tipton died in the crash.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn — A Seymour man crashed and died late Wednesday shortly after getting into an altercation at a Chapman Highway bar, records show.

Authorities identified the driver as Marshall M. Tipton, 48.

According to Knox County Sheriff's Office reports, Tipton went to Daniel's Bar, 8725 Chapman Highway, on Wednesday night. He became angry when a patron wouldn't shoot pool with him.

He punched a man and ended up being escorted from the building, records state.

Knox County Sheriff's Office authorities were called after Tipton got into his Chevrolet truck but refused to leave.

Deputies arrived about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday. They moved to confront Tipton and he sped away, records state.

He drove the Chevrolet down Chapman Highway to Highland View Road. At the intersection with Pickens Gap Road, while trying to run from KCSO, he ran a stop sign and crashed head-on into an embankment.

Authorities said he died at the scene. His body was taken to the Regional Forensic Center for an autopsy.
