KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Starting in October, public transportation might be easier to access, with Knoxville Area Transit introducing a new fare system.
The launch of the new system begins on Oct. 23 and can be used through the transit app or with a plastic card that can be tapped. With "Katpay," riders will never pay more than $2 a day or $30 in 30 days.
Those eligible for discounted fares will pay $1 a day or $15 in 30 days.
according to KAT, qualifying individuals include:
- Seniors age 65 or over
- Medicare cardholders
- Persons with disabilities, including disabled veterans
- Students in Knox County Schools grades K-12
