KAT plans to operate severe snow routes Saturday with the starting route at 11:15 a.m. and the last at 8:15 p.m.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — UPDATE (1/20): The Knoxville Area Transit is continuing its severe snow routes throughout the weekend. They announced routes for Sunday, Jan. 21 and Monday, Jan. 22.

On Sunday, KAT will continue operating severe snow routes. This means only Routes 11, 12, 22, 31 and 41, and they may have additional detours. The first route will start at 10:15 a.m. and the last at 5:15 p.m.

On Monday, they will start the day on severe snow routes starting at their regularly scheduled service hours. KAT will monitor road conditions as the temperature warms up and hopes to move to regular snow routes when it is safe to do so.

"We know this has been frustrating, but safety for all has been, and must always be our main priority," KAT said.

The last route for Saturday is 8:15 p.m.

Knoxville Area Transit said buses would be operating on Severe Snow Routes Thursday from 11:15 a.m. through 8:15 p.m., with the same schedule on Friday. According to a post on social media, only routes going through Knoxville's major corridors will be in operation. A list of those routes is available below.

  • Route 12 - Western Avenue to I-640 Plaza
  • Route 22 - Broadway to Essary
  • Route 31 - Magnolia Avenue to Burns

KAT also said all passengers ride for free while buses are operating on severe snow routes, but warned passengers that service could change before their return trip. In such situations, passengers would need to pay the regular fare for that trip.

KAT could also return to a regular snow route schedule, which offers more routes but also requires passengers to pay. More information about KAT's service is available on its website.
